Every year, around Thanksgiving time sheep start showing up in the fields near where we live near Bakersfield. These aren't beautiful Shetland sheep, but I still love having them around, especially when they start having lambs. Russ pulled off the highway yesterday, so I could get a closer look at a flock. There were tons of lambs, not newborns, but still very young and cute. It seemed like there were a lot of twins, and the shepherd had tied their legs together. It didn't seem to bother them, but I wonder what the deal was.Our mission yesterday wasn't just to enjoy lambs. We also had a visit to the library on our exciting agenda. I love browsing, looking for a book that attracts me simply because I like the cover. I hit the jackpot with mostly "foody" books:A Cook's Tour by Anthony Bourdain, Passion on the Vine by Sergio Espinoza (a book about wine and food in Italy; and An Irish Country Doctor by Patrick Taylor. Of course, I still have The Wee Mad Road, which Madame Purl had mentioned on her blog, on my nightstand and am enjoying it. It's not about food or knitting, but it's set in Scotland, which is almost as good! Oh! and this week's New Yorker is their food edition, so I'm set. I just wish I could read and knit at the same time, but I can't. I've tried.

Yes, I don't think I could read and knit either -- too much going on there. I can't really even listen to books on tape either -- my mind wanders to my knitting and I lose the story. And Bakersfield! I don't know why, but I put you much closer to the coast. I spent 4 years in Lancaster as a child and my youngest was born there too.
I can and do read while knitting. It just has to be easy reading and brain dead knitting. I love love those orange socks! The lambies are so cute! Makes me want to hug them!
Well, actually reading and knitting, no. Audiobooks and kitting, definitely yes. I think you know how much I love audiobooks. Keeps me from having to choose between the two.

I can't read and knit at the same time either...but I always knit when I watch tv! I'm not to fond of audiobooks, because my mind always starts wandering, and I forget what I just heard;~
I'm always so surprised when I see newborn lambs at this time of year-here in Norway most of them are born in April (and some in March and May), and let out on green grass soon afterwards.
Oh, I wish I could read and knit at the same time... Thank goodness for audiobooks! Such a luscious stack of reading... I love the New Yorker! Such sweet lambkins...so precious! Those lambs are so very cute. I wonder if their legs are tied so the twins don't get separated and therefore easier to find. Interesting.
Question for you: How do you find time to read/knit. My trouble is that if I have an hour to do something, I knit! I have piles of things I want to (and some that I'm supposed to) read and I just keep picking up my needles instead! When/where do you read?
