I Like Felting

I finished my purse almost a week ago, but I just haven't taken the time to post it. I have a front-loading washer, so I'm at a little disadvantage, but I think it felted nicely enough. You can still see the stitches a little, but I'm just going to leave it. Now, I'm ready to make a Booga bag. My knitting group meets Saturday, and that would be a perfect project to take along to work on.

I haven't posted any pictures of our yarn-loving kitty for a while. Here she is sleeping on a bunch of yarn.

A Little Milestone

My son is thirteen years old. He's pretty indedpendent, but I still think of him as my baby...since he is. This morning, he left at 6:00 A. M. to go on a four-day fieldtrip to San Diego. He's never been away from home for that long. In fact, the longest he's been away from us has been spending the night at a friend's house. It was little lonley coming home from work today with no Kai lying on the couch snuggling with his dogs and eating an after-school snack. I only texted him a couple times today. I'm glad he's not leaving for college for four years yet.

I thought it would be fun for me to send my little rabbits to my sister's kids in a pretty "package," so, I'm knitting a little purse. It's a free pattern that I discovered on Ravelry , but it's also availabe from Knitting Pattern Central. I'm just about ready to felt it. I'll reserve judgement about how I feel about it until I'm finished with the felting, but I'm thinking I will be happy with the end product.

Another Bunny

This picture has nothing to do with knitting, but it is somethng pretty that I made. Paige got glasses this week. I feel a little bad because she's been so excited about how clear everything is...like the radio buttons in the car. Our eye doctor says she sees things as wider than they are. Mmmm. maybe that's why she nearly sideswiped all the cars parked on the side of our street when she was first learning to drive.

My brother-in-law just accepted a new job in Omaha, Nebraska. They used to live in Redlands, California, just three hours away from us, and we would complain that we only saw each once or twice a month. Then they moved to Indiana, and our family was so sad. When my brother-in-law took a job in Indiana, he and my sisiter had only two children. Now they have four, and we hardly ever get to see them. So, although Omaha is still 1700 miles away, we are very happy. Russ's family lives in Lincoln, Nebraska, only 50 miles from Omaha, so we will see them much more often.
I sent my two little nieces bunnies for Christmas. A couple of days ago, I was talking to my sister, and she said that my five-year-old nephew had mentioned that he wished he had a bunny. He even got on the phone to tell me. He said that he wouldn't even mind if I made him one with a dress. For some reason, I thought that was so sweet. It's also something I can make fun of him for when he's about fifteen. That is, unless he still doesn't mind dresses. If that happens, I'll be his kind, understanding aunt who's not here to judge. (LOL) I had the day off today, so I knit him his little bunny. He told me that "orange is a very nice color." I wanted to honor that, but I just couldn't do orange today. I'm sending my nephew his bunny and my nieces get two new bunnies too.

I know that I've mentioned tons of times that I started knitting bunnies after seeing the ones from Little Cotton Rabbits. Since she doesn't sell patterns for her bunnies, I've adapted Fuzzy Mitten's Easter Bunny pattern a little to look more like the "Little Cotton Rabbit" bunnies. A few weeks ago, Little Cotton Rabbit had a post about how people were copying her toys and selling them as their own. I felt a little uncomfortable about that post because I have definitely copied her, but I have no intention of ever trying to sell any of my knitting. I'm not interested in making a dollar an hour! I've thought about it quite a bit though, and I'm pretty sure that she wasn't talking about people like me. Anyway, I usually like using cotton for my bunnies like Julie uses, but for my nephew's bunny, I used a skein of Karabella Aurora 8 merino yarn for the body and a little bit of Debbie Bliss cotton angora for the "pants." The green yarn was some KnitPicks yarn that I bought forever ago, and I guess this little bunny was a good stash buster.
