Just Showing Off

I've so enjoyed the Winter Olympics this week. It's the perfect excuse to sit and knit. I don't want to have to concentrate though, so I've been knitting some fancy socks. Actually, I also knit another Thorpe Hat for one of my daughter's friends earlier in the week, but my daughter delivered it before I could snap a pic. I've had this pattern bookmarked forever. I found it in on A Bluestocking Knits, and thought it was so pretty. I started to knit a pair a couple of times, but I just couldn't get the lace right. This time I really thought about it as I knit and realized that there's a small error in the pattern. (At least, I think so.) My daughter is past pink, lacey socks, so I'm not sure who I'm giving them to.

I also have to show off what I've been able to do in my backyard this month. I've been "harvesting" lettuce. I'm bragging because this is one of the few times of the year that I'm pretty sure I have it better than almost everyone else I know weather-wise. I'll be miserable in July, but right now, there's nothing like Central California in February!

I win the stupid award today. I saw the picture of your garden with snow floating across it and my first thought was, wow! snow in California! Doh!

Cute socks! There probably was a mistake in the pattern. I always tend to think it's my fault too when it doesn't work, but a lot of the time it isn't - designers are human too, even though we tend to think they must be perfect and totally surpass our cognitive abilities. I've also encountered patterns where I've found another solution I liked better or just plain didn't get the designer's logic. So my motto is now, if it doesn't work for you, change it.

Lettuce! In February! My kitchengarden is still covered in snow-LOL!

The socks are really cute! I have an 8yearold niece, she loves pink, so maybe I should make a pair for her...

Have fun with the rest ofthe Olympics. I try to watch as much as I can, and things brightened up a little over the past couple of days-two gold in the biathlon, and one more the day before:-)
Other than that I follow the curling team, with their bright, checkered pants-LOL!

What kind of lettuce?? It looks so green and lovely! So healthy. I love to garden - what do you do to your soil?

Those socks are darling - way to go!

Those pink socks are beautiful! Whoever receives them will be very lucky. Your lettuce looks great too -- you're so lucky -- we have two un-friendly lettuce seasons here -- snow and bunnies!

The socks are sooo sweet... and LOVE the pink! ;o) That is a lovely pattern, the edging on the cuff so pretty. It's funny when a mistake in a pattern happens. My first reaction is often-what a dunce I am--LOL! But when there is a mistake it does get the brain going to be creative and "fix" the problem. A little while ago I had a simple pattern, but got stuck, really stuck, so frogged a bit and just did it my way. Not 100% correct, but it saved the garment. Harvesting lettuces already...*sigh*... My little veggie patch is heaped with snow that probably won't be gone & melted until June, all the snow we've had this year. I'm living in the wrong place, maybe! I can't wait for garden days and home-grown salads for lunch... I enjoy yours in the meantime. Happy weekend ((HUGS))

Oh! the lettuce! I guess it's time for me to plant some, huh?

Those are gorgeous socks! I am knitting up a hat pattern that I would love to highlight on my blog, but I want to make sure there are no mistakes in it, hence the weekend knitting...

The socks are cute- save them! suddenly you´ll need a gift. The letuce is totally so not here....
We have snow, it is still snowing and I´m so sick of it. I am longing for easter, spring and a relaxing moment in a garden chair. I totally envy you and your Californian weather.

We have some spinach and peas growing, and it's so fun to watch it spring up. I love SoCal this time of year, but yes July will be hell.

Those socks are adorable! Perhaps I should make a lacy pair for RJ, as I hope she is still in the pink lacy sock phase for a little while yet.
