Free Yarn

Before I offer up this yarn to someone who can give it a good home and love it as it deserves, I have to admit that I have no idea why I bought it. It's hand-dyed, worsted weight and did look  pretty with its green, pink and orange tones sitting in a basket with more muted-toned yarns. It was $25, so it wasn't terribly expensive...or cheap either.  I just kind of think its color combination is over the top.  I always feel guilty whenever I see it lying in my stash box. I think it was peer pressure that made me buy it; I was with my X-knit (Extreme knitters) buddies, and they oohed and awwed a couple of times over it, and somehow it ended up in my basket.

You may have it by just leaving a comment saying that you want it. You don't even have to say anything other than, "count me in," although it would be fun to hear about your most impulsive yarn purchase. I think I got off pretty cheap with this one.  I'll randomly choose a winner some time next week.

Blogging friends, please at least pretend to be interested. I'll feel like such a loser if no one responds. "Wow! that girl really has strange taste in yarn. Maybe she should just stick with pink!"

I would knit something from it, probably not wear it myself, but my daugher who love wild colors and adores pink will be enthralled with the color combo.

Impulsive fiber purchases? I got snookered in to buying lbs and lbs of cowachin fleece when I visited Victoria BC and a friend took me to a First Nations shop's back room and smiled expectantly at me. I knew my responsibility--don't let him down by only buying a little bit of fiber. It is beautiful stuff, but a big garbage bag stuff full of it? I'll never finish spinning it all!

I'd knit something out of it too, although pink and green are not exactly my colours-LOL! But it would probably look really fun in a scarf or shawl or something! I might even have bought it myself!

I don't think I've done any really wild yarnpurchases...but I did buy some rather cheap wool/cotton/acrylic combo once, knitted jackets for both the girls, and frogged it after a couple of years- the yarn grew so much that I could use them myself! They were around 10- and I'm not exactly size small... Haven't been able to use the yarn for anything else!

Holy Cow! I think that yarn is beautiful! Pink & green are such Spring Time announcers - no matter what time of year you're wearing pink & green...plus I love the "barber pole" plying in it, so all the colors play together at the same time -
As for wild yarn purchases...we all do that, my big weekness is sale bins... somehow if its 50% off it looks pretty to me, until I get home and wonder, "Oh dear, what was I thinking?" :) Thanks for such a fun blog!!

Well, I, for one LOVE that yarn. However, I don't really think I'd know how to use it. I really don't have much of a yarn stash, except for sock yarn. I don't really think I've made an impulsive yarn buy (fabric is a WHOLE 'nother story). The reason is that I'm not confident enough to buy yarn unless I have a pattern and know exactly what I will make with it. Anyway, I think you have exquisite taste! ;-)

I think it would make a nice hat and scarf. And it would match all my brightly colored fishing shirts. :)

No judgement from this quarter on impulse buys and things that go home with you though you aren't sure why....Sale bins do this to me or stores that I won't get the chance to visit for a long time....

I love the colours - I could definitely make something nice with it!! Some time ago I bought a large cone of yran in a charity shop .... well, it was just so cheap!! It was manmade, knobbly, probably glowed in the dark ... and turquoise (I know, what was I thinking!!) I gave it to someone who knits childrens' sweaters for a charity, saying perhaps she could use it for the odd row for embellishment - she LOVED it, so some poor orphan is now wearing a ghastly knobbly turquoise sweater .....

That is absolutely gorgeous yarn....I KNOW WHY YOU BOUGHT IT:) My shopping for everything is always impulsive. That's why I have a lifetime supply of quilting fabric, a ridiculous number of china cups and saucers, and some yarn that was 'SUCH A GOOD DEAL' that I could not say no. But I love these colours and I already know what I would make with it:) Just beautiful!

First of all - LOVE the new look of your blog. So springy and bright. Puts me in a good mood.

Count me in! Looks like gorgeous hat yarn for a certain little seven year old gal I have running around here.

WOW...I LOVE the yarn! It's PINK, what's not to love?! LOL! You know how much O love pink... ;o) Seriously, I do think it has great knit potential, and this is very sweet of your to offer up a rather pricey yarn for us all to take a chance on it. Peer pressure on yarn buying... I've not had that happen to me before... Although any foray into a yarn store is dangerous for me too! Since I've been trying to whittle down my yarn stash, I've been trying not to buy--and be careful of impulse buys. A while back I did buy some deep purple mohair, which still has not be used--loved the color but haven't found the "perfect" pattern match--the yarn is almost 2 yrs old in my stash...*sigh*... Thanks for the fun! And LOVE the new banner--it's gorgeous!

LOL....Count me in. I really like the yarn. Yes, I have yarn also that makes me wonder why I purchased it and even worse why I started knitting with it. (I only purchased 10 skeins of it...lol.) It is taking up a pair of my sometimes needed needles.

I can see why you would pick it up. It does remind one of spring. I always get enticed by Lorna's Laces offered each month through Jimmy Beans Wool. Because there are special shades each month I think that I HAVE TO HAVE IT, or else I'll be supremely disappointed. Living overseas for so many years it became automatic to buy something as soon as I saw it because it might not ever come back again. So I have to talk myself off of the proverbial ledge all the time.
No apologies necessary, my friend.

I actually think that yarn is fun. My most impulsive has to be some lace weight alpaca that was on sale. I stare at it from time to time...and wonder what to do...Sales always get me.

Gosh- I would have bougth it too!! your rignt, the green takes you away.
that would be a fresh pair of socks for my teen girl.
I gave away 10 balls of a thicker sock yarn the other day (gave it to the school- the kids will use it ) because it´s such a struggle to knit with. It was very sheap and in fresh pink/black, blue/black and lime/ black. knittet one pair of socks and I had to fight to get them off the needles.:-) This is how it goes when the colors seduces you.

I love the colors of the yarn, all my favorites, especially the pinks. Would love to own it. :-)

Hmm, it is very pretty, so I can see why you bought it. I would probably make something for my daughter. I have quite a few impulse buys, but the worst is the $27 sock yarn I bought to make my daughter socks, and I've never knitted a sock before in my life. What little girl needs $27 socks?

Count me in!

I have a very weird scarf knit out of yarn with bits of sari fabric. What was I thinking when I bought that yarn?

I would totally buy that yarn if I came across it - I love the colors! I would make a shawlette out of it for sure.
When I first started knitting, I didn't know about the LYS - and shopped at Michaels all the time. I have tons of sale yarn in all forms of acrylic fuzziness, bobbliness, and featheryness. What was I thinking???

I once ordered 10 skeins of an unknown yarn based on the recommendation of a knit blogger. The stuff is nasty - all bulky, scratchy and lanoliny!! Your yarn reminds me of peonies - very pretty!
