Slow Start

I love the process of reading, not just the content of what I'm reading but the actual process. I remember as a kid making a little "fort" around my breakfast bowl with cereal boxes and just reading them as I ate. I just like reading. Of course, now, since I don't have as much time to waste, I'm unwilling to waste time on mindless reading. I'm pretty thoughtful about what I read. My knitting--that's another story. Sometimes Often, I just have the urge to knit. That's fine when I'm in the middle of a carefully chosen project, but when I'm between projects, what's a girl to do? That is when I come up with useless knitted items, like hearts or mini-mittens.
I've spent most of this month, just knitting little ornaments. They serve no purpose, other than I have enjoyed knitting them, and they help me ease into taking down my last few remnants of Christmas. Perhaps I need to get a little focus. Nah!!

You've just given me an idea! I could knit up a bunch of Christmas ornaments--in February! That way I wouldn't have to be crunched for time to make them in December! Why not? :)

About the Newbery books--I agree that the more recent books haven't had the consistency of the older ones. My all time favorite may be The Door in the Wall. Elizabeth Enright? Oh yeah! I get drunk on her words :)

Oh, but they're sooo darn cute! And I agree with Willow -- February would be a great time to knit up some Christmas ornaments!

I love the hearts - definitely something to put on the list to do between major projects!

I loved The Door in the Wall too, Willow! I read somewhere that most readers will cite books from their youth as having influenced them the most. I always thought it was an "age" thing, but maybe it's just that children's books are better than adult books:)
