Another Bunny

This picture has nothing to do with knitting, but it is somethng pretty that I made. Paige got glasses this week. I feel a little bad because she's been so excited about how clear everything is...like the radio buttons in the car. Our eye doctor says she sees things as wider than they are. Mmmm. maybe that's why she nearly sideswiped all the cars parked on the side of our street when she was first learning to drive.

My brother-in-law just accepted a new job in Omaha, Nebraska. They used to live in Redlands, California, just three hours away from us, and we would complain that we only saw each once or twice a month. Then they moved to Indiana, and our family was so sad. When my brother-in-law took a job in Indiana, he and my sisiter had only two children. Now they have four, and we hardly ever get to see them. So, although Omaha is still 1700 miles away, we are very happy. Russ's family lives in Lincoln, Nebraska, only 50 miles from Omaha, so we will see them much more often.
I sent my two little nieces bunnies for Christmas. A couple of days ago, I was talking to my sister, and she said that my five-year-old nephew had mentioned that he wished he had a bunny. He even got on the phone to tell me. He said that he wouldn't even mind if I made him one with a dress. For some reason, I thought that was so sweet. It's also something I can make fun of him for when he's about fifteen. That is, unless he still doesn't mind dresses. If that happens, I'll be his kind, understanding aunt who's not here to judge. (LOL) I had the day off today, so I knit him his little bunny. He told me that "orange is a very nice color." I wanted to honor that, but I just couldn't do orange today. I'm sending my nephew his bunny and my nieces get two new bunnies too.

I know that I've mentioned tons of times that I started knitting bunnies after seeing the ones from Little Cotton Rabbits. Since she doesn't sell patterns for her bunnies, I've adapted Fuzzy Mitten's Easter Bunny pattern a little to look more like the "Little Cotton Rabbit" bunnies. A few weeks ago, Little Cotton Rabbit had a post about how people were copying her toys and selling them as their own. I felt a little uncomfortable about that post because I have definitely copied her, but I have no intention of ever trying to sell any of my knitting. I'm not interested in making a dollar an hour! I've thought about it quite a bit though, and I'm pretty sure that she wasn't talking about people like me. Anyway, I usually like using cotton for my bunnies like Julie uses, but for my nephew's bunny, I used a skein of Karabella Aurora 8 merino yarn for the body and a little bit of Debbie Bliss cotton angora for the "pants." The green yarn was some KnitPicks yarn that I bought forever ago, and I guess this little bunny was a good stash buster.

Oh goodie! I just went to fuzzymitten and bought that pattern! I can't wait to get it and knit up that bunny. I like Flopsy that I knitted from the Quick Knits book but I've wanted a bunny like Little Cotton Rabbit's ever since I found her website.

Yay! Thanks for sharing where you got the pattern.

Those bunnies are so sweet. I love them all and so will your nieces and nephew.

Caroline,
Thanks for the suggestions about the bunny pattern. It saves me time, so I don't have to knit one up and rip it out. I think I'd like a shorter body too.

I hope the pattern comes soon! I can't wait!

I'm looking for yarn that will knit up to look like 'camo' material. Have you seen anything like that?

Sweet box of bunnies there! And Paige's glasses are wonderful--she looks lovely. Being a wearer of glasses myself, the joy of seeing is a blessing. ;o) Happy Days ((HUGS))

Wow, those are some really cute bunnies! I hope your nephew likes his. As for the pattern copying, I agree that it was almost surely pointed towards those selling them. Personal use seems perfectly fine.

I am certain the Little Cotton Rabbits wasn't talking to you. It was to teh people who have solen her idea to make a profit. So don't be uncomfortable. Paige looks great. I have a Paige too. It's a great name.

Hi,

I finally tackled a bunny!! This was my 3rd attempt and I am VERY happy with the results. I used the Fuzzy Mitten pattern and it really was easy. Even putting it together. I had read recently a note in one of your blogs stating that bunnies were so simple and quick to knit and I laughed because that was not the case for me! Now I must agree. I even found a pattern for little shoes that I altered and can make Mary Janes. But I am stumped on the sweater and the dress. Where did you find your patterns? Or are you such a great knitter you juat figured it out on your own? If you could point me in the right direction I would love it. My daughter is getting married in July. I'm thinking I would love to have a basket of bunnies and bears for my grandchildren, nieces and nephews to each take one home. They are all coming from out of state and range from ages 1 to 12! There will be 8 of them.

Love the bunnies! They are really cute.

About the copying, I'm sure she doesn't mean you. Besides, it depends on if people are making up their own pattern or litterally copying hers. It is possible for two people to have the same idea.
